Big earnings for tiny star Prince

Purple Rain star Prince earned more than any other artist in 2004 after a dramatic bounce back.
The diminutive singer netted £35 million from concerts and CD sales, putting him at number one on the list of the Top 50 money makers of last year.
In the process he beat Madonna, Metallica and Sir Elton John. The list encompasses musicians worldwide and their earnings through international record sales and concert tours.
Born Prince Rogers Nelson on June 7, 1958, in Minneapolis, the singer had a string of hits in the 1980s and 1990s, including When Doves Cry, Kiss, Little Red Corvette and 1999.
He has penned hits for Sheena Easton and The Bangles and his songs have been covered by Tom Jones, Chaka Khan, and Sinead O'Connor.
Later this evening, Natasha and Daniel Bedingfield are rumoured to be planning a performance of one of his hits at the Brit Awards.
In 1980, Prince's first album Dirty Mind quickly brought him to the attention of music critics. Three years later, 1999 sold over 3 million copies internationally while Purple Rain went on to sell over 13 million in the US alone.
In 1993, on his 35th birthday, he dramatically changed his name to an indecipherable symbol. Six years later he reclaimed the name Prince having refused to use it when signed to Warner Bros, complaining that he felt like their slave.
He even performed at the Brits in 1995 with the word SLAVE written on his face. On March 15, 2004, Prince was inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
