El primer single de Sign 'O' The Times marco el regreso al "composed, arranged, produced and performed by Prince" tras 3 discos con The Revolution. El tema fue un éxito comercial (#1 en listas de R&B) y artístico ya que ha sido incluido en el #299 en la lista de los 500 mejores temas de todos los tiempos según Rolling Stone. Y sí, las piernas de la portada del single son de Cat y no las de Prince (como cuenta una leyenda urbana).
